copper's dream

What better way to spend a Tuesday afternoon is there than with 7 four-legged friends, rolling around on the grass, enjoying the sunshine and bit of fetch, jump, tug of war? :)

Copper's Dream Rescue is a wonderful Bay Area non-profit I'm so glad to have stumbled upon. With 5 years of doggie dedication, their team has been able to save, foster, and find homes for 2,000 pups and counting! It never ceases to amaze me just what a group of dedicated, open-hearted folks can do with a bit of hard work and loving intention. They have assembled a super group of volunteers, foster parents and supporters who work tirelessly to ensure every dog in our area gets the chance it deserves at a beautiful life. And from the stories I've heard so far, happy puppy parents often end up in a "who saved who?" state of mind shortly after bringing in their new bundle of barky joy. Sounds pretty win-win to me!

The only down side to playing with a handful of their cutest rescues for 2 hours? Not being able to take one home with me :(

B and I deeply wish to adopt a pup of our own, but 550 square feet of apartment doesn't easily translate to breathing room for a furry friend-- particularly because B has an ache in his soul for a black or chocolate lab. I am fortunate my company allows trained dogs in our office, where they are generously loved up on by my friends and co-workers. But, I'm not sure I could find peace of mind leaving such a big breed dog in such a small space otherwise.

Sigh. City livin.

In the meantime, I do have a pretty irresistible canine niece to help fill the dog-mama void in my little heart...(this is Lucy's best "I smell other dog all.over.you. so don't try to act like you weren't cheating on me this afternoon" face )....

Totally busted. I had to impart many minutes of back scratching and a few tasty treats to get back on her good side.

So for now, I am grateful for my time with her (and the play pals at Copper's Dream!).

And in case you doubted my sincere craving for a pal of my own, here is photographic evidence of my crazy-faced interaction/attempt to contain myself and not nibble on her sweet little precious face, or sneak her into my purse before leaving.....

I should probably work on my "I swear I'm normal and capable of not Lenny-ing my dog" face before actually applying to adopt....

In Gratitude,

Trish

Have you at all considered going with a smaller dog like a french bulldog which doesn't need a lot of space at all? Or do you guys have your hearts set on a larger breed?

I've definitely given the smaller dog route some thought, but in the end it's always a big breed who tugs at our hearts the strongest!

Sorry, perhaps I was being too subtle in my previous comment. Let me rephrase:

Get a french bulldog so I can see photos of it and play with it in the future.

Yes. For you? Anything :)
